The true meaning of this ancient, awe-inspiring creation has been lost in the mists of time. Was it a temple for sun worship, a healing centre, a burial site or perhaps a huge calendar? How did our ancestors manage to carry the mighty stones from so far away and then, using only the most primitive of tools, build this amazing structure? Surrounded by mystery, Stonehenge never fails to impress.

- The superb shop for souvenirs of your visit and unusual gifts.

Why not combine your visit to Stonehenge with other famous national treasures such as Windsor Castle or Georgian Bath.

Mystery surrounds this 5,000 year old World Heritage Site. Visit this pre-historic South West monument and decide for yourself whether Stonehenge was designed as a place of sun worship, or as part of a huge astronomical calendar, or something different altogether! An awe-inspiring family visit, Stonehenge is a powerful reminder of the once-great Stone and Bronze Ages. Each phase of Stonehenge was a circular structure, aligned with the rising sun at the solstice. Erected between 3,000 BC and 1,600 BC, the stones were carried hundreds of miles over land and sea, while antlers and bones were used to dig the pits that hold the stones. Modern techniques in archaeology, and the series of recent digs, have helped to shape new theories about the stones, but their ultimate purpose remains a fascinating and enduring mystery.

My first visit to Stonehenge, having driven past it many, many times. We came with a family of 4 friends from New York City. We had no problems buying our on-line ticket. Parking was very convenient and the people in the ticket office were friendly and helpful (as were all the staff we encountered). WE took their advice and looked at the display in the Visitor Centre first

Sorry if my english is not perfect ... The site is magnificent and impressive... For lack of being able to approach more, I would have like I can make the complete tour of the site... See these stones from all angles... But I do not regret having come from France for this visit.

I liked that I could buy online. Of course, I found out later that I didn't have to. Since we were driving from London, and I have never driven in the UK before, it was difficult to ensure we were within the 'window' on the ticket. I understand the reasoning behind this, but, for a site that is so far out of the way, it is difficult. Additionally, since we didn't have a printer, we were lucky that the hotel printed the tickets for us. Why not have the PDF scannable from a smart phone or tablet?

- Benjamin D

The staff when we arrived - very wet & windy - were very helpful and it was their unpushy comments that made us join.

Been driven and have driven past Stonehenge for the past 64 years. But it took a young American visitor to actually get me on sight. Impressive does not begin to sum it up. Thank you. Bill Unsworth.

We were able to get in but the staff had little to no information about our ticket bought through you, only to say to us that they've had this problem once before with 365 tickets. It took two members of staff and a phone call to verify our ticket which held up the line and had us feeling apologetic even though it wasn't our fault! I recommend you smooth out the kinks!!

- Jye B

Ordering tickets was a nightmare. Why the hell can you not just take your number and pick tickets up at the place. Our printer broke before we could print them, the place we stayed at had no option to print anything, Stonehenge itself have nowhere to print. Bloody nightmare. Husband thought you could do more with the visitor centre. I would have liked headphones for the recording device. Disliked intensely having to use one hand all the time. More instruction on how to use them would have been good. Overall much better and much more expensive than when we visited 40yrs ago.

- Laura A

Stonehenge is awesome. The new center helps make it accessible and safe for the site as well as the visitors.

As could be expected, a bit overvaluated, but you pay for getting to say you have been there. The new museum does compensate, though. If you know you are going to see rocks and have no higher expectations, it's an amazing experience. On January it was very chilly and windy, though, really be prepared!
